First Step Project was developed by the Mother Child Education Foundation (AÇEV), supported by Vodafone Turkey Foundation and initiated in 2009 in collaboration with the DG of Pre-School Education of the MoNE. The purpose is mainly to provide thousands of children with quality pre-school education. The place and the way children had their first years will have implications on the rest of their lives. Therefore, it is very important what they learn from their parents and from educational institutions at their pre-school age.

First Step Project was developed based on the idea that every child has a right to attend to an educational institution at their pre-school age which is the most critical period in their development. The Project aims at making the best use of our children's' potential and to make them have an equal start in life.

VF Turkey Foundation and AÇEV have conducted two major projects since 2007, achieving a significant investment and contribution in pre-school education and parental education in Turkey. This Project is kind of a combination of all pre-school education activities, motherhood support and class equipage programs which have so far been conducted. It spreads such activities and the established capacity over the whole year, and helps them be more widespread and have a persistency.

Aiming at providing a quality pre-school education to children who suffer from inaccessibility and inequality the Project is composed of a number of seminars: creating nursery schools from scratch both technically and physically; parent-child education in the class throughout a full academic year; and "First Step" train the trainer. It is expected to reach to 53,000 mothers and children in 30 cities (which corresponds to 414 nursery schools) by the end of 2011 academic year.
